A Chautauqua scholar delivers monologues using the historical figure's words and then answers questions from the audience as that person would. Join us as our scholars portray various figures from history in short-form presentations. Follow the link below for a complete lineup of performers and the historical figures they'll portray.

  • July 16: Dorothea Phelan portrays Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus—Founder of the American Association of Retired Persons.
  • August 13: Steve Hale portrays Major General John C. Frémont—Reminiscence of his wife Jessie Benton Frémont.
  • August 20: Kim Harris portrays Elizabeth Van Lew—American abolitionist. “Southern Woman, Yankee Spy.”
