Easter Concert: The Passion of Bach & The Joy of Handel
Join us this Easter Week for a profoundly moving musical journey as the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus presents two of the most beloved masterworks in sacred music. We will be performing three different concerts at various venues between Reno and Minden.
Tuesday, March 31st
St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, Reno
We present the complete performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, selections from part 2 — a work of extraordinary emotional depth tracing the story of Christ’s betrayal, trial, and crucifixion with haunting beauty and dramatic power. Guest tenor Matt Hidalgo performs the pivotal role of the Evangelist, guiding us through this powerful and intimate masterpiece.

CVIC Hall, Minden
Easter Sunday, April 5th
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Reno
The first half of these performances will feature a shortened version of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, followed by a triumphant turn toward joy and resurrection in the second half. Selections from George Frederic Handel’s Messiah celebrate the promise of new life and redemption, including:
- Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs
- All We Like Sheep Have Gone Astray
- Why Do the Nations So Furiously Rage Together
- The Trumpet Shall Sound
- The radiant Hallelujah Chorus
From solemn reflection to exultant praise, these timeless works create an unforgettable Easter experience — a sweeping musical meditation on sacrifice, renewal, and hope — brought to life by the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus.
General admission adult tickets are available now for $30. Preferred seating is $40 adults/$15 youth. Premium seating is $50 adults/$25 youth. Benefactors row is $100/seat. Under 23 years of age are admitted free in general admission seating. Seniors enjoy $5 discount in all areas. There are “back row” seating tickets at no set charge, just donate what you can afford for this concert.
