Easter Concert: J.S. Bach's "St. Matthew Passion"

Tahoe Philharmonic, Easter Concert: J.S. Bach's "St. Matthew Passion"
Event Description:

Experience one of the greatest masterpieces ever written as the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus present selections from Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental St. Matthew Passion during Easter Week conducted by Maestro James Rawie.

Composed in 1727, this profound sacred work tells the story of Christ’s final hours — from the Last Supper through the betrayal, trial, and crucifixion — with extraordinary musical depth and emotional power. Through dramatic recitatives, reflective arias, and powerful choruses, Bach creates a deeply moving meditation on faith, sacrifice, and redemption.

Don't miss our other concerts Saturday, April 4th and Easter Sunday, April 5th! The first half of these two performances will feature a shortened version of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, followed by a triumphant turn toward joy and resurrection in the second half. Selections from George Frederic Handel’s Messiah celebrate the promise of new life and redemption.
