SCCA is The Sports Car Club of America, a national organization that promotes all levels of motorsports.
We are the Reno Region (#101) of the Sports Car Club of America, a non-profit organization promoting and holding amateur automotive motorsport events in Northern Nevada. We offer several different ways for you to experience competition and performance driving in your own street car, at the lowest cost in motorsports. Whether its Solo (Autocross), Track Events, Time Trials (TT), or RoadRally Treks, there's an opportunity waiting for you to join the fun.
Solo
“Solo®” is the brand name for SCCA® Autocross and on paper it seems very simple – use traffic cones to make a mini-roadcourse in a parking lot or airport and see who can get the lowest time without hitting any cones or going off course. Despite the low overall speeds attained during competition, it’s one of the most intense, rapid-fire forms of motorsports you can enter, with barriers to entry low enough that many drivers are able to be quite competitive at it.
Competitors range from the casual participant who may use the same car that they drive daily to work to the hard-core driver who has a dedicated competition car, special tires, and uses lots of vacation days to squeak out every last fraction of a second. In between the extremes, there are levels and classes for different degrees of car modification. There are even classes for ladies.
Whatever your level or car – there is a place for you in SCCA Solo.
Track
Track Event is our non-competitive track experience. We have two skill categories: Green (Novice) and Blue (Intermediate). Green group is for first-timers and drivers still in their first few track events of experience. Green and Blue run in separate 20-minute sessions except for the final session of the day, when both groups are mixed together. Green group includes classroom instruction and an instructor passenger on course. Lessons include track etiquette, understanding flags, understanding car behavior, and situational awareness. For advanced level and experienced track day drivers, we recommend the Time Trials events.
Road Rally
Reno SCCA holds RoadRally Trek events as a social and casual driving gathering that travels across the scenic areas of western Nevada and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Street Survival
Tire Rack Street Survival goes beyond typical high-school driver education programs, which put more focus on classroom theory and parallel parking than controlling a 2 ton vehicle at speed. The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival program is a hands-on driving experience in real-world situations. We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them.
The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.
